Brass for Reuben Concert is Summer Success!
The Brass For Reuben Concert took place on June 29th at the Stockport College Theatre. The event was organised by Lion Dave McPherson and turned out to be a very memorable evening.
Taking part were The VariVocals choir from Romiley, who are led by Claire Sweeney. They sang a number of 'Brass' related numbers including: Seventy Six Trombones, I'm A Brass Band, Come Follow The Band, A Sinatra Showcase, What A Wonderful World and Why We Sing.
The Romiley Primary School Brass Band, led by Liz Bexon, are widely acknowledged as the leading primary school brass band in the North West. The audience were treated to a varied programme including band numbers, solo performances and dancing as well as a special appearance from Romiley Primary's very own version of 'The Beatles'.
Marple Band entertained the audience with numbers including: I Only Have Eyes For You, Let's Face The Music and Dance, Manchester Hymn, La Danza and Is The Way to Amarilo.
Romiley and Marple Lions have worked closely with Rueben's Retreat since its inception and were delighted that over £700 was raised by the concert. Liz Bexon also chose Rueben's Retreat as the school's final charity before her retirement and a magnificent sum totalling £2,258.84 was raised by the children and from the concert.
The cheque presentation that took place after a special assembly at Romiley Primary School to acknowledge Liz's supreme efforts with the Brass Band, Romiley Primary School and her charity work over the past 25 years.
