Presidential Handover 2017
Romiley and Marple Lions have a new President. Lion Bill Spencer has taken over from Lion Jack Farrell following the Club's Presidential Handover Dinner at Romiley Golf Club.
The Club is always on the lookout for new members to 'join its ranks'. The Club was formed in 1978 and it was originally known as the Stockport Goyt River Lions Club covering Woodley, Bredbury, Romiley, Compstall and Marple.
There were 23 original members and they met on the first Monday and third Thursday of each month at the West Towers Hotel in Marple. In 1985 the name Romiley, Marple and District Lions Club became the Club's Official title, although we are are usually known simply as Romiley and Marple Lions.
The Lions currently meet at the Conservative Club, Guywood Lane, Romiley at 8.00pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
As members of a worldwide organisation Lions Club International (formed in 1917) we assist as many worthy causes, locally, nationally and internationally, as they possibly can.
Members can be seen during the year at local fetes and carnivals with their famous Ball In The Bog game, raffling Easter Eggs or sellng novelty items at the Brabyns Park Scouts Bonfire.
The Lions also organise various events locally to raise money for the Club's charitable work and have for many years brought Father Christmas to Marple Garden Centre (Wyevale) where he hosts Breakfast and Tea Time Sessions in the restaurant and also greets visitors to the Dragon Miniature Railway's Christmas Grotto. The Lions are very busy at Christmas as another important day on their annual calendar is the Marple Santa Dash.
If you know of a worthy cause which you would like Romiley and Marple Lions to support you come along to tell us about it personally at one of our meetings or contact Welfare Chairman Lion Terry Harding on 0161 330 9494.
